Kyra Panagia

In an area of 25 sq. km, Kyra Panagia is the biggest desert island. It was the Ancient Alonissos, while today belongs to the Moni of Agia Lavra (Monastery) of Agion Oros. It is named after the monastery that is located in the north-east side of the island, which was built in 1100 A.D.

There are two natural bays on the island, Agios Petros on the west side, and Planitis on the east side of the island. Planitis bay is one of the biggest natural harbours of the Mediterranean Sea.
